Honestly kids are CHATTERBOXES and I mean that in the best way like once u unlock the privilege of them wanting to tell you everything, they’ll tell you EVERYTHING so I just ask them anything. Like deadass anything. Even if it’s silly and bland someone has something to say and then suddenly everyone has something to say. We’ll be reading a book and the character will be getting ice cream and I’m like ok what’s everyone’s favorite ice cream flavor and they just be screaming over each other to be heard LOL. And I kind of just let them say what they wanna say (in turns, ofc) and they shift from one thing to another and honestly if you just let them talk and give them really animated reactions like woah??? No way???? And wow!! That’s so cool!!!! Or omg??? You really did that??? They just get super excited HAHA. Idk I was also rly awkward at first bc the last time I was around kids was when my siblings were young and that’s like . Ages ago HAHA. But once I started getting a bit more animated and lively with my reactions to things they say they started getting more excited to talk to me bc I suppose they equate that as validation and stuff that the things they have to say are very interesting (which they are. They’re very funny at this age lollll)

Also idk if you’re in a work environment with them or not, but if you make them play games they come out of their shells. I gently insist everyone play even if they don’t want to initially bc they tend to turn their nose to most suggestions and then I was like …… um okay now what?? But if you just say “cmon guys everyone should participate” most of them end up becoming invested as long as you have some variety and don’t do the same thing over and over again. Hangman quickly got old LOL so I had to get creative
